CE marking, certification and market access
For many products in Europe, CE marking is a central part of market access. If the product is going to the USA, Canada, the UK or other markets, different rules, standards, test requirements and certification routes can apply. A product with electronics, radio, battery, power supply, software or a cloud connection can quickly fall under several different sets of requirements at the same time.
UL is one example of how market access and customer requirements can look different outside the EU. For some products, UL or equivalent certification is a requirement from customers, distributors, insurers or particular installations. ATEX is another important area, if the product will be used in or around potentially explosive atmospheres. Here the requirements can affect the whole product architecture: enclosure, materials, temperature, energy levels, electronics, marking, testing and documentation.
Compliance has to be considered early
That is why compliance has to be considered early. If the requirements are only discovered once the prototype is finished, the consequence can be redesign, extra testing, new components, changed mechanics or an entirely different product architecture. That is expensive, slow and frustrating — especially if the product is close to launch.

The goal is to make sure the product can reach the market safely, legally and with documentation, without unnecessary detours. Early testing reduces risk and cost
We have experience collaborating with relevant test laboratories and certification partners — notified bodies, accredited laboratories and more informal test environments that can be used for early clarification and pre-compliance. That makes it possible to choose the right test route for the right phase. Not every question requires a full certification test from the outset. Sometimes it is far better to take an early measurement, run a screening or make a technical assessment before spending budget on the formal process.
That approach can reduce the cost of certification considerably. If critical aspects are tested early, faults can be found while the design is still easy to change. That could be EMC, temperature, radio performance, electrical safety, material selection or mechanical robustness. When the product is later sent for formal testing, the risk of expensive faults and repeated test rounds is lower.
Documentation and compliance throughout the product's lifetime
Technical documentation is an important part of the work. A product has to be explainable: Which requirements are relevant? Which choices have been made? Which tests have been carried out? Which components have been used? Which risks have been assessed? And how is it ensured that the product continues to be manufactured on the same basis? That is why we work with documentation, test basis, bills of materials, risk assessments, drawings, assembly instructions and production data as part of development.
Compliance does not stop at launch either. If a component is discontinued, firmware is updated, a sensor is changed, or the product is to enter a new market, it has to be assessed whether the change affects approvals, documentation or the test basis. That is why compliance is closely tied to product lifecycle management, quality management and operations.
