Zephyr RTOS

We develop energy-efficient, dependable embedded solutions based on Zephyr RTOS. With a focus on connectivity, security and low power consumption, we help companies bring modern IoT products safely to market.

Zephyr RTOS

Why choose Zephyr?

Zephyr RTOS is built for modern embedded products, where resources are limited but the requirements for functionality, security and communication are high.

The platform is a particularly good fit for products based on STM32 and Nordic microcontrollers. Here, battery life, wireless communication and stable operation are often critical. That is why Zephyr is widely used in IoT devices, wearables, industrial sensors, measurement systems and other battery-powered products.

Zephyr has a modern development environment, broad hardware support and an active open source community. That has made the platform a strong alternative to traditional RTOS platforms in many new embedded products.

Automation & Control

Low Power Management

Low-power software for battery-powered products

For many embedded products, power consumption is a decisive design parameter. That is why we develop low-power software, where energy use is designed in from the start of the project.

We work with sleep states, wake-up events, interrupt-driven software and efficient handling of peripherals. The goal is for the product to use as little power as possible without compromising function or response time.

The result is longer battery life. The product can run stably for months or years between battery changes or charges. It sounds mundane, but this is often where the product experience is won.

Firmware and hardware developed together

Zephyr works best when hardware and software are developed as one combined solution.

We help with firmware development, hardware integration and power optimisation. That way software architecture, component choice and hardware platform support each other throughout the process.

That reduces development risk and makes it easier to create products that run stably without extensive adjustments afterwards.

Connectivity and secure software updates

Many Zephyr-based products are connected devices that have to communicate securely and receive software updates throughout their lifetime. We develop solutions with BLE, Wi-Fi, LoRa and MQTT depending on the product's requirements for range, energy consumption and data communication. We also implement secure boot processes with MCUboot and support Over-the-Air Updates (OTA), so firmware can be updated securely without physical access to the product.

Among other things, we help with:

  • Board Support Packages (BSP)
  • Driver development for SPI, I²C and UART
  • Low-power software and energy optimisation
  • Wireless communication with BLE, Wi-Fi and LoRa
  • MQTT and IoT communication
  • Secure Boot with MCUboot
  • Over-the-Air Updates (OTA)

Why choose Zephyr over other RTOSes?

Compared with many traditional RTOS platforms, Zephyr has a modern software architecture, broad hardware support and an active open source ecosystem. That makes the platform well suited to products that have to be maintained and developed further over many years.

The choice between Zephyr, FreeRTOS or other RTOS solutions always depends on the product's requirements. We help choose the platform that best fits the specific task.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Zephyr RTOS?

Zephyr RTOS is an open source real-time operating system for modern embedded products. The platform supports many microcontrollers and is a particularly good fit for IoT devices and battery-powered products.

When should you choose Zephyr?

Zephyr is a good choice when a product places high demands on security, wireless communication, energy efficiency and long-term maintenance.

What is low-power software?

Low-power software is software that minimises energy consumption. That is achieved through efficient power management, sleep modes and good use of the hardware, among other things.

Does Zephyr support OTA updates?

Yes. Zephyr can be combined with MCUboot among others, so products can be updated securely via Over-the-Air Updates (OTA) without physical access to the device.

Which microcontrollers do you work with?

We primarily develop Zephyr solutions for STM32 and Nordic platforms, but we also work with other hardware platforms supported by Zephyr RTOS.
